I bought one last year knowing full well the implications, 5 year old and an 8 month old kid, wife works, I work, etc, etc.
You just have to love it. You have to make time for it. If I get out once a month I call that a win. She's been on it twice in 12 months. It will sit all winter unless I get a plow probably. Even though we are in a position now where we really don't have time to go riding, we have the money to buy one, hopefully the machine will last 10+ years, the kids will get older and we'll have more chances to get out.

I hang out at NEATV.org, seems to be the most happenin place for ATV guys.

I see guys giving up and selling all their Jeeps/quads/bikes/etc. I'm still holding to all of them, its my fun.

The first year i bought my quad i went riding every weekend for a few months strait (illegal riding) then i was caught and arrested and charged with tresspassing, after 25 hours community service and a little over 1000 dollars in fines i decided to go the legal route. The illegal riding was great, i would throw my quad on a trailer, be on the trail 30 mins later, ride for a hour or two and be back before lunch.

I have been on a few trails in Mass and a bunch in NH and decided that it sucks and not worth the ride. Most of the trails are a minimum of 1hr 45 mins away from the Providence area (most are more than that), If you have time to go riding and have people to go with its alot of fun, but most of the people i used to ride with either sold out or just dont ride anymore. Plus i only get one day off a week so using up that entire day to go riding for a couple hours blows. Then adding up the money spent on gas to drive up north makes me want to throw up.

I bought my quad 3 years ago, joined RIOHVA and went to a few meetings expecting great things to happen. Well here we are 3 years later and from what i see no closer to having legal place to ride in Rhode Island. If there ends up being an open legal place to ride in Rhode Island it is going to be so regulated and watched waiting for someone to screw it up that it won't even be fun.

So to get the rush from riding i decided to pick up a 06 yamaha R6 sport bike late in the season this year and in one month i racked up over 2000 miles. At least with the street bike i dont have to make a day out of it and tow a trailer for over 100 miles to have a few hours of ride time and i get to commute to work with it.

Well have fun and stay safe on the trails, who knows maybe we can meet up some day before i sell out!

nemesis, sell the quad and buy a street registrable dirt bike. You will have 5 places to ride within 30 minutes from your house.

Nice choice with the R6, I had one and loved it. The downfall to sportbikes is the tickets they generate  I've got a couple fun loops mapped out if you're up to it next season and don't mind a 350 mile day

A 350 mile day isnt too bad, just before the season ended i went up to the kancamangus highway in NH and back, Was a total of 14 hours on the bike, cant remember how many miles it turned out to be.

Let me know!
